The Bose Soundlink Micro speaker is a durable outdoor speaker that’s made from tear resistant silicone so it’s not only scratch resistant, but its also able to withstand drops on hard surfaces from various heights.
The Design
It’s even sealed to prevent water damage and with an IPX7 certification, this speaker can be submerged in up to 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Bose also says that the Soundlink Micro will be safe to use in or around salt water, but one thing to keep in mind is that if it falls in water it won’t float it will sink.
There’s a strap on the back of the speaker, its very simple to use and highly convenient. The tension on the strap will provide a lot of security no matter what you attach it to.
The power and pairing buttons are located at the top along with a battery level indicator which is a feature that most small speakers don’t have. At the front, you will find the volume buttons and the multifunction button. The only disappointment for me is that there is no 3.5mm input for a physical connection.
Connectivity
Pairing is very easy and you’re able to pair up to 8 devices at the same time. You will be able to get over 40 feet in wireless range with a clear line of sight.
Battery Life
Bose Claims up to 6 hours of playtime. In real-world testing, at 50% volume, you’ll get an impressive 14 hours of audio playtime from full to dead.
Sound Quality
For a small speaker, the Micro does very well in providing enough sound for personal space listening. Even though this speaker is priced at $100 don’t expect it to be loud like the JBL Flip 4 or the UE Wonderboom speakers at a similar price range.
For such a small speaker it has very impressive bass. It’s better than most of the other Ultra Portable Bluetooth speakers currently on the market. The bass is very punchy, and it makes this little speaker enjoyable. The vocals in the mids are extremely loud and strong. Speakers of this size normally suffer at the high frequencies, but the Soundlink Micro has no issues here, the highs are very sharp without being overpowering.
Finally
The portability makes this speaker a winner in my book. It’s extremely rugged, waterproof and very functional. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is the ability to float but this won’t be an issue for the average consumer.
For the size, you get an amazing audio experience backed by excellent durability. I highly recommend this speaker if you’re looking for ultimate portability in one of the best compact designs.
