Weighing in at 420g, the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 Bluetooth speaker is small and portable. Ultimate Ears is known for making some of the most rugged and durable speakers on the market and the WONDERBOOM 2 is no exception. It has the same water, dust, and drop-proof qualities as the previous model.
Design & Build
Up top, you’ll find the buttons for power, Bluetooth pairing, play/pause and skipping forward. Unfortunately, you can’t go back to a previous track.
At the back behind the water-resistant flap, you’ll find your Micro USB port for charging. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm port for audio connections.
At the bottom speaker, UE has implemented a unique Outdoor button. This button is a pre-adjusted equalizer that’s meant for the outdoors. It provides a louder and crisper sound experience.
Ultimate Ears (UE) claims up to 100 feet in wireless range which is on the very high end of Bluetooth performance. And in real-world use, you will be able to get that full 100 feet even with a few walls in-between. You’re also able to pair two WONDERBOOM 2 speakers and have them play in mono or stereo mode. UE has improved on this by now offering true stereo separation which allows you to hear left and right audio channels.
UE claims up to 13 hours of battery life which is an improvement over the last model which was 10 hours. This is also better than similarly prices speakers from JBL and Sony. In real-world testing at 50% volume, you will be able to get an impressive 14 hours.
Thanks to very even 360° audio your able to put this speaker in the center of a room and everyone will get the same level of audio experience no matter where they are in the room. With the outdoor button turned on, vocals are pushed forward to a very acceptable level which is quite impressive. Audio is powerful enough for small rooms and some medium-size rooms as well.
The highs are present but can get a bit muddy at high volume. The mid-range is clean with excellent clarity, especially in Outdoor Mode. The bass is a bit improved over the last model, it has a bit more punch and is more pleasing. UE has never been known to provide speakers with audiophile quality and it’s the same with the WONDERBOOM 2.
The Ultimate Ears WonderBoom is built like a tank just like all the other UE speakers. It’s not the best when compared to the competition but this speaker is designed for entertainment, so it will sound great the further you are away from the speaker. If you’re looking for a speaker with 360° audio and the best outdoor performance in this price range, the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 is a great option. If you are looking for high-quality audio performance for your own personal listening, Sony and JBL have better options that provide direct audio. Read Now – Best Ultra-Portable Bluetooth Speakers
