This is the UE Wonderboom, a cute and quirky little Bluetooth waterproof speaker that packs a punch. It’s a very simple device, up top, you find 3 buttons one of which is the UE logo and it also has a small elastic loop which you can use to hang your speaker on anything the loop can fit around. On the bottom of the speaker, you get a micro USB input which is covered by a small plastic flap.
The speaker is wrapped in the same waterproof fabric that adores the other UE speakers and the top and bottom of the are made from plastic. On the front, you’ll find the UE signature plus and minus sign buttons both are slightly raised so you can feel exactly where they are without even looking at the speaker.
The UE Boom is IPX7 waterproof which means it can be submerged underwater for up to 30 minutes in a meter of water but as useful as that is, what’s even more useful is that the speakers float so if you drop it in a pool you won’t have to worry about how long it’s in there cause it floats, but remember it won’t play any music while hanging out in the pool.
This is a truly wireless speaker that handles distant very well, giving you a range of 100 feet but when you get to 80 feet you will start to hear your music skip a beat. It’s also shock resistant and can be dropped from a distance of 5 feet.
Connection & Pairing
Like Previous UE speaker, you can pair this speaker to another Wonderboom Speaker if you want to double up. You won’t even have to use the Wonderboom app, just long press the UE button at the top of both speakers simultaneously and they will pair together. The is a definite improvement on how you pair speakers and it completely removes the app from the equation. The only drawback is you can only connect your Wonderboom with another Wonderboom so if you or your friend have a different kind of UE speaker you won’t be able to pair up with them.
EU claims a battery life of 10 hours but customers have been getting closer to 2 hours with the volume turned to the max, but if you keep the speaker at the average volume you can get closer to 10 hours of play time, this can be a big problem if you’re at the beach and you have to be using a maximum volume you will run out of power in no time. Also if you press the volume up and down buttons at the same it will play a specific tone based on home much battery life is left, there are 3 tones.
Whether listening music in the shower or at the beach you’ll never need a sufficient output to hear what’s playing the sound is clean and clear with pretty decent bass for its size. The downside is that it will clearly affect the run time.
Overall, I really like the UE Wonderboom Bluetooth Speaker, it’s a quirky little speaker that plenty of people will enjoy. With the summer coming around this will be great for warm weather like taking it to the beach or to the park. It doesn’t have the best sound quality but it’s still good enough to make your music very enjoyable and fun.
