The Sony WF-1000XM3 True Wireless earbuds have an all-plastic design made that pretty much on par with most truly wireless earbuds but these earbuds do not have any waterproofing at all. No sort of waterproofing means these premium true wireless earbuds aren’t ideal for working out or to take to the gym. The 1000XM3’s are more design for home, work or in transit depending on your lifestyle.
When it comes to comfort these earbuds sit very comfy and stable in the ears and will withstand some physical activities before losing their seal and falling out.
Like most of the competition, the 1000XM3’s have touch controls that are easy to fall in love with. These controls are sensitive enough and easy access, unlike physical buttons which you constantly have to be pressing down in your ear canals. Additionally, you’re able to use the available Sony Headphone app to customize your touch controls. The only let down is that there are no volume controls on either earbud.
Stand Out Features
You’re able to hear your outside environment through your 1000XM3 earphones either by holding down the left earbud or by giving the left earbud a tap. This feature works really well, the outside sounds you hear might sound a little amplified for safety and awareness but overall audio sounds natural. There also auto-pause which means if you take any of the earbuds out of your ear the music will stop and once you put it back in your ear audio will resume.
Connectivity
Sony has made these earbuds independent which means each earphone is connected to your phone independently which provides you with a much more stable connection. These earbuds have the latest Bluetooth 5.0 technology so you get a very strong and stable connection of over 80 feet in wireless range with a few walls in between.
Active Noise Cancelling (ANC)
ANC is really impressive on the 1000XM3’s earbuds. It’s able to block out outside interference by eliminating a lot of the airiness and ambient air around you. So it will eliminate sounds from an air conditioner at the office, light breeze, or cars driving by. If you walk a lot or your always in transit these earbuds are perfect.
Battery Life
Sony has disclosed that you’re able to get 6 hours battery life with ANC on and 8 hours with ANC off. Plus you get 3 additional charges with the gorgeous charging case that’s charge by USB. So in total, you get up to 24 hours of playtime. Quick charging is also featured so just 10 minutes of charge will give you back 90 minutes of performance.
Sony Headphone App
This app shows your battery levels. Sony also included an Adaptive Sound Control feature, which uses the gyroscopes inside the earphones to work out if your stationery, sitting, walking, running or in transit and automatically adjust the noise-cancelling to that particular surroundings. The app also provides an equalizer with presets as well as language changes.
Audio Performance
These earbuds can get extremely loud especially when compared to the competition. It delivers very balanced bass in its stock settings and with the app, you’re able to adjust or just use the Bass Boost preset to get real deep bass. The mids in the stock setting are well pronounced with natural tones. And the highs are good with just enough clarity.
Finally
The Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless earbuds deliver a great balance between price and audio experience. And the fact that you have the ability to tune the audio there’s no way to make these earbuds sound bad. Read Next: Best True Wireless Earbuds
