Miccus is a company that focuses on wireless audio transmission in the home with Bluetooth technology. This is there SR-71 Stealth Low Latency Headphones that works with aptX low-latency Bluetooth transmitters for fast,
After spending some time with the SR-71 Bluetooth headphone, this is my full review.
Design & Build
When it comes to design there is nothing really fancy or unique about the SR-71 headphone which is what you would expect when you consider the price. Its very lightweight with an all-plastic construction. I like the clean and simple design of the SR-71 headphones, it has a matte black finish with a silver ring around each earcup which that gives it, its own unique look to stand out from the competition.
The fact that earcups cannot be folded up was a bit of a disappointment for me but the headphones can swivel a full 90 degrees for ease of transport in the included carry case.
On the right earcup is where you will find all your playback controls to play /pause, skip forward/ back, volume up / down, answer/ end phone calls. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired connection should you run out of power.
Comfort & Feel
It has padded earcups that offer a reasonable amount of comfort on the ears, its what I was expecting because headphones in this sort of price range don’t typically have a lot of padding when compared to more expensive headphones. Even though the earcups aren’t very plush, they do an amazing job at isolation. The headband also has extra padding that adds to the overall comfort and design of the headphones. FAIR WARNING; These headphones will start to get a bit uncomfortable when wearing for long hours.
Pairing to your smartphone is a very quick and easy procedure. Once the headphone is connected it will automatically pair with your device every time you turn it on. It offers Bluetooth 4.2 technology, which was a bit of a disappointment for me with Bluetooth 5.0 now being the standard. But you will get pretty good signal strength with a wireless range of over 33 feet with a clear line of sight and over 18 feet with 2 walls in between before the audio starts to go in and out. You’re also able to pair with two different devices at the same time.
Thanks to the aptX low-latency Bluetooth transmitters you get very fast, lag-free audio when watching movies, video and playing games. I was quite impressed by its effectiveness when you consider the price. There is little to no latency in the audio transmitted to the headphone so you will be able wirelessly to enjoy your favorite movies whether on a TV, Laptop or mobile device.
Miccus Claims up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge. In my real world testing, I got 18 hours which is still quite impressing. With that much battery life, you can stay in bed and binge watch your favourite Netflix series without worrying about running out of battery or even stopping to recharge.
The sound experience you get when listening to music is good but not great. You can tell that these headphones are designed for videos. It doesn’t get very loud at max volume but it does get loud enough to be enjoyable. The music mids are extremely balanced and produce an accurate portrayal of instruments and vocals when listening to high-quality audio. The highs are ever present but not very strong, you do get a sufficient amount of detail and because the headphones don’t get very loud the highs never get overpowering or muddy which normally leads to listening fatigue. The bass is very punchy but not very strong or deep. The bass was I bit disappointing for me, it’s punching but not strong or deep. When listening to music audio is more focus on mids and high frequencies so the bass is lacking.
When watching movies and videos this headphone comes alive you can tell that these headphones are was constructed for videos consumption. It delivers a very immersive sound experience with excellent detail in low and high frequencies in both earcups along with great sound stage. But for me, the lack of strong deep low-end bass was really noticeable, it didn’t make my viewing less enjoyable but this would have added more depth and feel to the audio give you a more captivating sound experience.
If you’re looking for an affordable Bluetooth speaker to watch videos, movies, gaming, and some music consumption, the 70 is hand down a no brainer, but if you’re an Audiophile these headphones are for you. See our Best Affordable Bluetooth Headphones. The for the price the 70 is currently one of the best affordable wireless headphones for media consumption under $100, its, lightweight and comfortable to wear, very durable, with good sound quality and strong battery life.
