The first thing you’ll notice about the Sony XB22 Bluetooth speaker is that the LED lighting display is much more limited when compared to the biggest Sony XB32. The LED’s on the XB22 has a fixed colour which blinks and fades to the music. But it doesn’t go all the way around the speaker. Because the XB22 is the cheapest Sony LED speaker its the LED lighting isn’t as colourful as the rest of the XB line of speakers.
Like the prvious version this Bluetooth speaker is extremely durable, it sports an IP67 rating which means it’s dustproof and fully waterproof and will float if it falls in the pool or the ocean.
At the top, you will find all your playback controls which include, Live Sound button, pause/play, skip forward or forwards and Bluetooth pairing. At the back behind the water-resistant flap, you will find the LED power button, battery life button, and the WPC Wireless Party Chair button. WPC allows you to connect multiple Sony XB Speakers together whether from the previous or current line of speakers. The last button at the back is call ADD and this lets you pair 2 of these speakers together and have them play together in sync or in stereo. There’s also a 3.5mm jack for physical connection and a Micro USB port for charging.
Connectivity
It provides Bluetooth 4.2 technology and it works really well but it’s just not as good as Bluetooth 5.0 technology. You will be able to get up to 100 feet in wireless range even with a few walls in-between.
Battery
Battery life is rated at 12 hours with LED’s and EXTRA BASS off. With EXTRA BASS and LED’s on you can expect up to 6 hours of battery life.
Audio Performance
When compared to last years XB21 speaker, the XB22 is much improved with cleaner bass performance. It performs great in small rooms and some medium-sized rooms as well.
The mid-range is bright with clear vocals, while the highs don’t offer a lot of detail but its still is enjoyable. The Sony XB22 is a much need improvement over the previous XB21 and is worth upgrading to. Read Now: Best Sony Bluetooth Speakers
