Skullcandy Crusher ANC Personalized Noise Canceling Wireless Headphones – REVIEW

Read Time:4 Minute, 35 Second

The Crusher ANC Personalized Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones are active noise-cancelling headphones that are designed to deliver bass that you can feel.

 Design & Comfort

Gone is the diamond metal cut finish, which did look good on the previous version. It now has an all-plastic design that’s cleaner and smoother. But it’s still the type of design language that we have come to expect from Skullcandy.

The Crusher is extremely durable, firm and reliable as you would expect from a headphone in this kind of price range.

Even though these do come with a bit of weight, it does feel comfortable on the head. There’s no pinching or squeezing to cause any sort of discomfort. The earcups are very plush but can sometimes warm up your ears when wearing for long periods. You can also expect them to get a bit sweaty in warmer climates.

The majority of the buttons are on the right earcups and unlike a lot of the competition, the buttons are easy to access and identify. You have the ability to skip and go back on song with the same up and down volume buttons. They’re also a button to active your voice assistant from Google or Seri. Still on the right earcup, at the bottom you’ll find a USB-C port for fast charging, just 10 minutes of charging will give you 3 hours playtime. And like most wireless headphones you also have a 3.5mm headphone jack for physical connection in case the battery dies.

The left earcup has buttons for power, pairing, ANC and control for the Sensory Bass. The left earcup is also touch-sensitive for ambient sound pass through. All you have to do is hold it down the left earcup for 3 seconds and active noise cancelling turns off and the microphones turn on to pump through outside noises allowing you to hear what’s going on around you. This feature work excellent, it sounds very natural and not amplified like a lot of the competition with a similar feature. You’re able to hear your environment as if you weren’t wearing headphones.

Connectivity

The Crusher has Bluetooth 5.0 technology which provides excellent signal coverage from up to 90+ feet. Additionally, when watching YouTube and Netflix from an Android or Apple device, there won’t be any syncing delays to interrupt your entertainment.

Battery Life

Skullcandy claims an impressive 24 hours of battery life with ANC and Sensory Bass on. In real-world use at 50% volume with both features on you can expect up to 22 hours of playtime which is pretty good for an ANC headphone.

Built-in Tile Tracker

In 2019 we’ve started to see more and more companies start to offer Tile technology in their newer products and I think that very cool.

If you miss place your Crusher headphone whether near or far the built-in tracker can indicate where you last left them and it will also give you a 30-day history. You can also turn on a beep on the headphone to find it if you’re close by.

Active Noise Cancelling (ANC)

To start thing off, whenever ANC is on and the music is turned down really low you will get a slight hissing sound which makes things quite unpleasant.

Active noise cancelling isn’t the best, it does muffle out some sound but not enough. It’s pretty light and this is even more apparent when you compare it to headphones like the Sony 1000x m3 or Bose 700 headphones which block out a significant amount more. This means if you’re in quiet environments these will be decent but when you’re in Noisy environments this won’t get the job done. So, if your planning to buy the Crusher headphones please note the ANC won’t be its best feature.

Hearing ID

This feature is located in the Skullcandy app. It works by playing a series of tones in each ear and you tell the app when you hear them. Based on your responses, the app will create an audio signature to suit your particular listening profile. This feature works well but might vary for some.

Audio Experience

Let’s start off by talking about the bass. It’s mind-blowingly good and there’s no doubt that this headphone has more bass than any other headphone currently on the market.

The Sensory bass delivers bass so powerful that it vibrates your ears similar to when you stand next to a wall of speakers at a party or at the club. Its unlike anything else on the market and you can always turn it down or off if it ever gets too much for you.

The mids are strong despite the overpowering bass, it’s now very bright but it’s still very enjoyable especially on these super bassy headphones. The high doesn’t offer much sharpness to add to the overall listening experience but that’s perfectly fine.

To Wrap Things Up

The Skullcandy Crusher ANC Headphones deliver an incredible bass experience that far surpasses any other headphone on the market. It’s the perfect headphone for bass heads but if you’re looking for a headphone with fidelity and grace these aren’t the headphones for you. But if it Active Noice Cancelling that you’re looking for there are far better options on the market.
