The new Nintendo 2DS XL is Nintendo’s new handheld console.
It’s a mash up of the two previous Nintendo portables, the New Nintendo 3DS XL which upgraded the new original 3D portable processor and the Nintendo 2DS which is a simple but sturdy device. The New Nintendo 2DS XL is the best of both and it retains the iconic clam shell design of the original 3DS XL.
On the surface the New Nintendo 2DS XL included everything that the older 3DS XL does but in a smaller and better design package, it’s basically a more upgraded and refined version of the 3DS XL.
It has an upgraded processor that lets you play the new 3DS exclusive games. Just like the New Nintendo 3DS XL it has a second mini analog stick and extra rear buttons, theres also a stylus pen even though its kinda small, a front facing camera, dual rear cameras , NFC chip for Amiibo support and a large 4.88inch primary display.
The New improvements
The new 2DS XL is smaller and considerably lighter than the new 3DS XL. Nintendo achieved this by moving all the aforementioned features plus the speakers from the top screen. The speakers are placed at the bottom of the new 2DS XL and this can cause the sound to be muffled from time to time because of your hand will keep getting in the way.
The game card slot is now smartly protected by a new cover which prevents accidental game ejects that the previous model was prone to. The cover also hides the slot for the micro SD card, so theres no need to unscrew the battery compartment just to use external storage like the previous version.
Comfort and Game play
Overall the new Nintendo 2DS XL is significantly more comfortable to play than the new 3DS XL or the original 2DS. The shoulder buttons feel more natural and pressing the ZL and ZR buttons with the tips of your fingers will be easier.
Once you start playing you will notice how bright the new 2DS XL’s screen is, but the colors are not as bright as the new 3DS XL. The new 3DS XL has much brighter colors with deeper blacks and colors are more vibrant.
The processor in the new 2DS XL packs much more punch so games load much faster on startup an in between areas. It achieves the same enhanced draw distance, improved frame rate and less slow downs like the new 3DS XL.
The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a durable little handheld that can play a lot of games. It’s not quite an upgrade to the New Nintendo 3DS XL but its a handle held console that has all the essentials you need to play all the games the 3DS has to offer. The colors aren’t as vibrant as the New Nintendo 3DS XL but for most people especially for kids that won’t matter. The New Nintendo 2DS a really great choice if you’re looking for a new handheld it has every you need at a reasonable price.
